BOY DOES IT EVER.
I just wrote a very long post about how people misinterprete characters because they don’t want to think about them. This is the exact same issue at the core.
Especially with Maya and Trucy it’s incredibly ironic, because, while they have simmilar outward personalities, their core personalities are almost polar opposites (just like with Apollo and Nick.)
Maya has blunt honesty and unbendable hope at her core.
Trucy has deceiving illusions and deep doubts at her core.
Maya is acting carefree and cheerful despite her pain, because this is actually the kind of person she IS and because she feels better if she tries to put the past behind herself and instead live seizing the day.
Trucy acts carefree because she’s feels that’s the way she should act in order to positively influence her environment and everything she does is done intentionally to cast a smile on the faces of the people around her. Her own happiness isn’t what matters to her, she’s just trying to keep everyone else’s spirits up, even when she feels like crying. (Note how Maya cries a lot in the games she appears, while Trucy only cries ONCE and that wasn’t even real, that was Phoenix’ imagination!)
They are NOT alike at all!
Oh this looks like a fun game! So let’s see…
Nick is a friend of mine.
Detective Gumshoe makes instant noodles,
and Edgeworth won the king of prosecutors trophy.
- Maya Fey
This is the best reaction to this I have ever seen.
Transfering this to a new post, since I feel it’s better suited here than as a reply on a Fanart.
Can I be absolutely honest and say that Maya Fans complaining that Maya is not Nick’s assistant anymore in GS5 is something that annoys me a bit?
Maya was in three games, the movie (though she wasn’t well used there, I admit) and is gonna play a main role in Layton VS Ace Attorney, plus she will get fully animated, voiced cut scenes there. Maya is one of my favorite characters all time in the series (if not *the* favorite) and I am glad she got all the attention she got.
Thing is, by the end of T&T, there was supposed to be a significant shift in her character. It was supposed to mark the point where she grows up, stops dodging responsibility or beeing afraid of what happens if she fails and takes over leading Kurain into a brighter future as the Master. This needs time, dedication and, most importantly, requires her to refrain from regular 3-4 days stays in the City to solve some murder mystery. A big point in several cases was that Maya’s extended stays in L.A. actually caused her to neglect her training, which greatly weakened her powers. Maya’s ability to call Mia was strongest in JfA, when she had just returned from an extended stay in Kurain.
I would never let something like that happen!
I’m going to fix Kurain so there’s no more killing, no more hard feelings, and no more stupid old rules that tie our village to the stone age!
Not like I’m going to get married and start having kids today or anything, but… I guess I’ll have to some day, huh?
(Nngh… I just want to hang out with Nick and solve crime. Is that too much to ask?)
HAVE YOU ANY IDEA HOW MANY FEELS THE LAST SENTENCE GIVES ME?!
I really need a better second player, though. Nick spazzes out in games more than he does in court.
