“Yea, we wept, when we remembered” - A forgotten meaning of Xion’s name.

In the wake of KH 1.5 and all the 358/2 Days related glory that came with it, I have decided to talk about something I have been meaning to talk about for a while - Xion’s name.

Now, “Neni,” you might say “Hasn’t the topic of the symbolism behind this name already been talked about again and again, over and over?”

Well, yes, it is true, that meanings like “Shion”, the flower of remembrance and “Shio”, tide (And also, just so you know it “Salt”) have been covered over and over. However, one meaning has, interestingly, never been touched by any analysis I have read yet. The fact that, in japanese, Xion’s name is spelt and pronounced identically to Zion”.

Dear anon,

Hey! I take offense to that.

Why? Isn’t ginger a type of food?

No, it’s—oh, nevermind, the original joke doesn’t even have anything to do with hearts.

-Axel and Roxas

OH GOD. XD

Perfect answer!

askkingdomhearts:

Dear anon,

We have nothing to “work out.” All we require between the two of us is cooperation.

….As you can see, it’s not that simple…

askkingdomhearts:

Dear…well, you’re never going to get this letter, huh?

“A situation you couldn’t bail me out of,” huh? Maybe I should’ve been the one making that promise. I’m sorry I couldn’t keep you from changing…

-Axel

P.S.

I miss my best friend. It’s just not the same around here without you.

askkingdomhearts:

Dear piikaachuu,

Well gee, aren’t you coming on a little strongly there for someone I just met? Though I suppose a sea salt ice cream wouldn’t hurt.

As for the hair, I just put a little gel on in the morning and slick it back. Easiest part of my morning.

-Axel

Xion is perfect.

…Though, the last sentence kinda hurts…
Anonymous sent: How are you able to forgive Axel so easily after all the stuff he did in CoM? He did some pretty terrible stuff in that game. I know they make him more sympathetic in the later games, but his personality changes so drastically from double-crossing, look out for myself screw everyone else to personification of nice big brother that wouldn't hurt a fly except to protect his bestest buddies it almost seems like he has an inconsistent character personality.

You are right, under usual circumstances, Axel’s actions would be unforgivable: He kills, he turns friends against each other, he plans to backstab his own organization and he plays with Sora’s emotions and memories. He even lies a good deal to Roxas and Xion at the very beginning.

The thing is, this is *Axel*. The very fact he carried that name at that time is enough to tell you that… the person called “Lea” wasn’t quite himself at the time. Not at all, in fact. He had lost his heart, his ability to feel sympathy and remorse, his ability to *care*. He couldn’t comprehend anymore at this point that he was doing wrong. He was put into this state when he was, like, what? 14 or 15 years old! He was a kid, his personality not yet developed enough to give him a thorough understanding of morals without the aid of his emotions. If you were to put Lea on trial for the atrocities he committed as Axel, I’d plead “temporary insanity” for him, because that’s pretty much what it was: He spent 10 years of his life as de-facto a sociopath.

KH3D and 358/2 Days (especially if you read his diary entries) make it very clear that it was only once he bonded with Roxas and Xion, his ability to comprehend sympathy, remorse, emotions and morals slowly began to return again. Several of his entires then become pretty panicy and shocked, he pretty much spends a good junk of 358/2 Days in “Oh my god, what have I done?!”-Mode. I think this should show pretty well that the true Lea is not the same horrible person who went around murdering people like nobody’s business (hah) in CoM. It’s not inconsistent writing, because the games explain very well what happened to him: Part of his personality simply was gone for the ten years between becoming a Nobody and meeting his new friends. It was simply not there, not accesible, because he lacked the emotions needed to exhibit it. Then, when it returns, when he beginns to become himself, “Lea” again, he reflects on everything and beginn to understand. And it horrfies him. His actions in his sociopathic state disgust him. That’s *good* writting on my watch, even if it’s not shown obligatory on screen. It suits Lea’s personality very well to hide such emotions in public but let them go rampage in his diary.

So, yes. Yes, what “Axel” did were unexcusable acts. But that doesn’t change the fact that he did it in a state where he genuiely didn’t know any better.

Thus, Your Honor, I plead “Not Guilty on base of Temporary Insanity” for Lea.

That would be all. The Defense rests. (And I really should spend less time in the Ace Attorney Fandom…)

Dear anon,

Really? With the guy who kidnapped me and tried to mess things up for my friends? Well, he did save Sora and all, but still…

What’s the matter Kairi? Afraid of getting burned?

Careful Axel—keep it up and I might actually think you’re in need of a smack-down.

Eh, you’re not my type anyway.
